Boomers, it is all about you
December 30 (Bloomberg News) Does the name
Kathleen Casey or Kathleen Casey- Kirschling strike
a chord? Probably not. But as the clock chimed midnight
last Dec. 31 to ring in 2006, Casey- Kirschling was
once again a fleeting celebrity. She was born at midnight
on New Year's Day, 1946, in Pennsylvania. As such, she
was designated the first U.S. Baby Boomer and the first

Less is more
December 29 (Union-Tribune) Sixteen weeks

things I wanted to accomplish in the coming years...Having
turned 50 yesterday, I did succeed on one front. Wanting
to lose 16 pounds in 16 weeks, I proceeded to drop an
even 20, down to 176. I got there by adhering to a cutting-edge
program soon to be featured on 'Oprah' and splashed

Napans reflect
on half a century, lived to the fullest
December 10 (Napa Valley Register) "Fifty
is the new 40. That's my mantra," said Mike Basayne
of Napa, who turns 50 on Jan. 19. This mantra is one
frequently held among the last third of the baby boom
generation who live in Napa. People turning 50 today
feel their best days are yet to come. With age comes
wisdom and a better understanding of the world, they
feel.

Plan proposes
nifty post-50 birthday bashes
December 10 (Lawrence Journal-World) I’m
suffering from a birthday hangover. Not the kind caused
by too many flutes of champagne over a steak and lobster
dinner. This case of the blahs is of the Peggy Lee,
“Is That All There Is?” variety.I turned
51 yesterday and, unlike my last birthday, found no
reason to kick up my heels.

AARP is good
and ready to care for its own
December 7 (Seattle P-I) "Sixty-five
is the new 50" says the cliché of the moment,
reflecting the belief of baby boomers that with better
medicine, healthier living and an "I'll never grow
old" attitude they can approach 65 with the sort
of vim and vigor that their forebears might have had
at age 50. It's a pronouncement that is as wrong as
it is popular.

been out of the game as a player for 14 years...but
turning 50 is no problem. I sort of enjoy it because
as you get older, you mature a little bit more each
year.
